Tamarind rice.

Ingredients
1. Rice (cooked) ... 2 cups
2. Tamarind ... Lemon size.
3. Onion (small) ... 1 cup
4. Garlic ... 1 cup
5. Red chillies ... 10 (5 + 5)
6. Urad dhal ... 2 tablespoonful
7. Dhaniya (coriander seeds) ... 1 tablespoonful
8. Bengal gram ... 2 tablespoonfuls
9. Mustard ... 1 tsp
10. Asafoetida ... 1 tsp
11. Curry leaves ... 1 stalk
12. Salt ... to taste.

 

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard and red chillies and grind it into a powder in a mixie.
  2. Keep oil again in kadai heat it and add the urad dhal and bengal and red chillies till it becoms golden brown.
  3. Add the onion and garlic and saute till the onion turns transparent.
  4. Add a little salt and add the tamarind extract.
  5. Add turmeric powder (1/2 tsp), asafoetida and the required salt and allow it to boil in medium flame.
  6. You may add jaggery (50 gms) which is purely optional.
  7. Mix it with the cooked rice, the powder and dress with curry leaves.
