Dear friends, I am giving below a recipe for the preparation of Sambar powder which will lessen your work in preparing sambar, because it saves a lot of time that is spent on grinding the ingredients for the sambar. Please try and send me your feedback to eearkay@yahoo.com


Sambar Powder

Ingredients
1. Toor dhal ... 1/2 kg
2. Bengal gram ... 1/2 kg
3. Dhaniya (coriander seeds) ... 3/4 kg
4. Red chillies ... 1/4 kg
5. Fenugreek ... 25 gms
6. Asafoetida ... 50 gms.

 

Method:

  1. Fry the compressed asafoetida separately in a frying pan with very little oil. Take care not to break the asafoetida into broken bits before frying.
  2. Next, keep fenugreek in a kadai and fry till it becomes golden brown.
  3. Then add the bengal gram and fry.
  4. This is to be followed by toor dhal and fry
  5. Then add the red chillies followed by coraiander seeds (dhaniya)
  6. Mix the fried asafoetida and stir once and take it off from the stove.
  7. After it becomes cold (i.e. the heat passes off), grind it in a mixie into a coarse powder.
