Quick Rasam

Ingredients
1. Tomatoe ... 1
2. Tamarind ... 150 gms
3. Toor dhal ... 1 tsp
4. Red chilly ... 4 nos
5. Cummins ... 1 tsp
6. Pepper ... 1 tsp
7. Fenugreek ... 1 tsp
8. Mustard ... 1 tsp
9. Oil ... to fry
10. Curry leaves ... 1 stalk
11. Salt ... to taste.

 

Method:

  1. Make a powder of toor dhal, red chillies, cummins and pepper without frying them (raw).
  2. Mix finely cut potatoes, tamarind and the powder made and salt very well (almst mashing) and add sufficient quantity of water.
  3. Keep a kadai on the stove, heat oil and add the mustard and fenugreek. After the mustard splatters and thefenugreek turns golden brown --
  4. Add the tomatoe, tamarind etc mixture, and allow it only fine foam forms over the borders of the liquid. If it is allowed to boil the taste will be lost.
  5. Garnish with curry leaves.
  6. Addition of mashed (flattened) garlic is optional
