Onion Sambhar
Ingredients
1. Toor dhal ... 250 gm
2. Oil ... 2 tsp
3. Green gram (moong dhal) ... 100 gm
4. Bengal gram ... 25 gm
5. Red chillies ... 5 nos
6. Tamarind ... 100 gm
7. Jaggery cube ... 1 no.
8. Small onions ... 1/2 kg
9. Turmeric powder ... 1 tbsp
10. Sambhar powder ... 2 tbsp
11. Grated coconut ... 1 tbsp
12.Salt ... to taste
Method:
- Cook toor dhal and moong dhal together and keep aside.
- Take an extract of the tamarind in a vessel and add sambhar powder turmeric powder, jaggery cube and the required salt.
- Heat oil in a kadai, add bengal gram, red chillies, coriander seeds and a little onions and fry them well, and grind them in a mixie.
- Season the small onion with mustard and add it to the tamarind extract and allow it to boil well.
- After the onions are cooked well, add the cooked dhals and mix them and allow it to boil well and take it off from the stove.
