Onion Sambhar

Ingredients
1. Toor dhal ... 250 gm
2. Oil ... 2 tsp
3. Green gram (moong dhal) ... 100 gm
4. Bengal gram ... 25 gm
5. Red chillies ... 5 nos
6. Tamarind ... 100 gm
7. Jaggery cube ... 1 no.
8. Small onions ... 1/2 kg
9. Turmeric powder ... 1 tbsp
10. Sambhar powder ... 2 tbsp
11. Grated coconut ... 1 tbsp
12.Salt ... to taste

 

Method:

  1. Cook toor dhal and moong dhal together and keep aside.
  2. Take an extract of the tamarind in a vessel and add sambhar powder turmeric powder, jaggery cube and the required salt.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai, add bengal gram, red chillies, coriander seeds and a little onions and fry them well, and grind them in a mixie.
  4. Season the small onion with mustard and add it to the tamarind extract and allow it to boil well.
  5. After the onions are cooked well, add the cooked dhals and mix them and allow it to boil well and take it off from the stove.
