Jhatpat Masala Khichadi

Ingredients
Rice - 2 cups
Tuvar Dal - 1 cup
onion - 1 medium medium chopped
potato - 1 medium medium chopped
tomato - 1 medium (optional) medium chopped
oil - 2tbsp
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
aesofoetida - 1/2 tsp
turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
garlic - 5-6 flakes (finely chopped)
red chilly - 2-3 nos
lemon juice - 1 tsp
dhana-jeera powder - 1 tsp
salt to taste
warm water - 4 cups


 

Method:

  1. wash rice and tuvar dal and keep for 10 mins.
  2. in a pressure pan, heat some oil and put mustard seeds.
  3. when they crackle, add aesofoetida and finely chopped garlic and red chillies.
  4. then add turmeric powder and chopped onions, potatoes and tomato. saute for 2 mins,
  5. then add the washed rice and tuvar dal. saute till it mixes.
  6. then add dhana jeera powder and salt as per taste and warm water. 7.lastly add lemon juice and cook for 10 mins after 1 whistle. (tuvar dal should be properly cooked).
  7. serve hot with papad and achar of your choice!
