Jeera (Cumin Seeds) Rasam
Ingredients
Toor dhal ... 50 gm
2. Cummin seeds (Jeera) ... 25 gm
4. Red (dry) chillies ... 6 nos
5. Coriander seeds ... 10 gm
6. Tamarind ... small lime size
7. Hing (asafoetida) ... 5 gms
8. Salt ... to taste
Method:
- Soak toor dhal, cummin seeds, red chillies and coriander seeds in 400 ml water for 39 minutes, and grind it in a mixie into a nice paste and keep aside.
- Dissolve the tamarind in 2 instalments in another 400 ml water and heat it in a copper bottom vessel, add 1/2tsp turmeric powder and the required salt and boil it.
- When it starts boiling, add the ground paste, add another 50 ml water and remove it from the stove when foam starts forming on the top.
- Season it with another 1/2 tsp cummin seeds in 1/2 tsp ghee or oil. Tasty rasam is ready.
