Jeera (Cumin Seeds) Rasam

Ingredients
Toor dhal ... 50 gm
2. Cummin seeds (Jeera) ... 25 gm
4. Red (dry) chillies ... 6 nos
5. Coriander seeds ... 10 gm
6. Tamarind ... small lime size
7. Hing (asafoetida) ... 5 gms
8. Salt ... to taste

 

Method:

  1. Soak toor dhal, cummin seeds, red chillies and coriander seeds in 400 ml water for 39 minutes, and grind it in a mixie into a nice paste and keep aside.
  2. Dissolve the tamarind in 2 instalments in another 400 ml water and heat it in a copper bottom vessel, add 1/2tsp turmeric powder and the required salt and boil it.
  3. When it starts boiling, add the ground paste, add another 50 ml water and remove it from the stove when foam starts forming on the top.
  4. Season it with another 1/2 tsp cummin seeds in 1/2 tsp ghee or oil. Tasty rasam is ready.
