Hi, Actully I should have started sending my recipes beginning with a sweet first. But I wanted to start with my favourite, Garlic Pickle. Now I am giving a recipe for Bread Halwa. Needless to say that I am Shantha Radhakrishnan from Madurai South India.

Bread Halwa.

Ingredients
1. Bread with the borders cut ... 6 slices
2. Sugar ... 1 cup
3. Ghee ... 3 tbsp
4. Elachi ... 4 nos.
5. Kismis (dried grapes) ... 1 tsp
6. Cashew nuts - broken ... 5 nos
7. Milk ... 1/2 litre
8. Colour (green) ... 1/4 tsp.


 

Method:

  1. Melt ghee in a vessel, deep fry the bread slices, mix it with the milk and mash it.
  2. Take equal quantity of sugar, add it to the above and keep on stirring it well. When sugar dissolves and becomes thick in consistency, switch off the stove.
  3. Mix the elachi powder, add a few drops of colour and keep it to cool
  4. Smear a little ghee on a plate, transfer the above mix into that and garnish with cashew nuts and kismis.
