Kumbakonam Gothsu

Ingredients
1. Moong dhal ... 800 gm
2. Dhaniya ... 50 gm
3. Bengal gram ... 50 gm
4. Red chillies ... 25 gm (nos)
5. Besan flour ... 100 gm
6. Chilly powder ... 50 gm
7. Tamarind ... 100 gm
8. Jaggery cubes ... 1 no.
9. Turmeric powder ... 1 tsp
10. Carrot ... 150 gm
11. Brinjal ... 250 gm
12. Beans ... 100 gm
13. Chow chow ... 1/2
14. Salt ... to taste.
15. Mustard ... 1 tsp

 

Method:

  1. Cut all the vegetables into fine pieces.
  2. Cook moong dhal and keep aside.
  3. With a little oil in a kadai add bengal gram, dhaniya (coriander seeds) red chillies and fry them in medium flame and grind it in a mixie..
  4. Heat oil in a vessel, add mustard and after it splatters, add the cut vegetables, saute and keep aside.
  5. Take the tamarind extract in a vessel, add the required salt and add the vegetables and allow it to boil well.
  6. After the vegetables are cooked, add the jaggery cube.
  7. Add the cooked dhal.
  8. Dissolve besan flour in a little water and add to this.
  9. . After it boils well, take it off from the stove and add the ground powder.
  10. This will be super side dish for idli and dosa.
